USCIS to Implement Interactive Voice Response Telephone System

This past week, USCIS announced that it will be making a change to its telephone system. In their announcement, USCIS has stated that it will implement a new interactive voice response telephone system for all English and Spanish calls to the USCIS Contact Center. The new interactive voice response system’s goal is to personalize the potential immigrant’s experience and allowing them to do the three following things:

  • Receive links for forms and other immigration-related information by text or email
  • Provide real-time feedback via an optional survey so the program can continue to improve its services
  • Speak to the system instead of selecting keypad options, which will hopefully streamline the process and allow individuals to more quickly obtain answers to their specific, pressing questions

The new system will be carried out in phases, meaning that if you called today, you may or may not encounter some of the aforementioned changes. That being said, the system is expected to take full effect in the coming weeks. Once the system goes live, the USCIS Contact Center will provide those called with a wider array of options to choose from to make their experience a more efficient one. With the new system in place, there will be changed made to ensure you do not spend extra time on the phone by repeating yourself due to confusion relating to dialect, accent, or background noise. The USCIS Contact Center’s toll-free numbers will remain the same, as well as hours for live assistance.
