What is an H-1B Visa and How Do I Get One?

For many people, their goal is to live and work here in the United States. If you’re looking to get a job in the U.S., receiving an H-1B visa is one of the best ways to do so. Our firm has helped countless individuals through the H-1B visa process over the years, and we’re ready to assist you as well. Please continue reading and reach out to our experienced Lyndhurst H-1B visa attorney to learn more about these visas, whether you qualify, and how our firm can help you receive one. Here are some of the questions you may have:

Who qualifies for an H-1B visa?

The first thing you should understand is that not everyone qualifies for an H-1B visa. Only foreign nationals in certain “specialty occupations” will qualify. Simply put, you’ll need specialized knowledge in a certain field and have a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of such a degree in work experience. Some of the jobs that may qualify for H-1B visas include those in social sciences, education, law, accounting, medicine & health, physical sciences, accounting, mathematics, engineering, and architecture.

How do I get this visa and how long will it last?

To get an H-1B visa, you will first have to speak with a competent immigration attorney who can determine whether you should qualify. From there, we will apply for the visa, and as long as you are accepted, the visa will remain valid for up to three years. Typically, it takes up to 90 days for individuals to receive their visas. You should also note that you can extend the visa for another three years if you’re still looking to work for your employer. You should note, however, that if you are fired from your job or you quit, you will have to leave the country.

If you have any additional questions about these visas or you’re looking to apply for one, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our experienced immigration firm today. We are here to guide you through each phase of the process.
